Open to kids of all ages. Registration required. Celebrate Poetry Month with us! Create a small poetry scroll or write a poem on a small slip of paper to carry around with you in your pocket throughout the day. We'll read some of the poems we choose out loud. We'll make extra poems and pass them along to friends and neighbors throughout the day. Poem in Your Pocket Day was initiated in April 2002 by the Office of the Mayor in New York City, in partnership with the city’s Departments of Cultural Affairs and Education. In 2008, the Academy of American Poets took the initiative to all fifty United States, encouraging individuals around the country to participate. On this day, people carry a poem with them in their pocket and read it out loud in open air spaces, to neighbors or friends. Poems can be shared through social media as well--don't forget to mention the library!
