Temple Raiders Code Challenge

Fiero Code's next code challenge is LIVE!
Runs February 1- March 31, 2026, free to enter.

Fiero Code’s next code challenge is LIVE!

Like all good adventures, this one was completely accidental.

To start, you’re a tourist at the ancient Planet Fiero jungle temple of Tikal. Innocent enough, right?

Next thing you know, you’ve got a centuries-old artifact in your pocket. Oh, and now it looks like some kind of magical protector-of-temple-artifacts has materialized and is chasing after you.

In a situation like this you’ve really only got one option… RUN!

Your Mission:

Design and program a video game using Code Blocks to run away from the temple. Jump and duck to avoid tree branches and obstacles and last as long as you can before getting caught.

Competition details:

  • Free to enter
  • Ages 8-108
  • Runs from February 1 – March 31, 2026
  • Join the contest in Fiero Code
  • Winner gets cool tech prize from Fiero Code

Get Started:

  1. Log into Fiero Code. If you don’t have an account already, use your ACLS card to create one.
  2. Navigate to the Challenge page from the top menu.
  3. Join the challenge and start building!
  4. Publish your project before March 31st.

Requirements:

  1. Design a character and program it to look like it’s running.
  2. You should be able to jump by pressing the up arrow and duck by pressing the down arrow.
  3. From the beginning of the game, your character should automatically start running. But make it so your character stays still, but the ground moves under their feet.
  4. Have the game auto-generate obstacles that will force your character to jump or duck. If they get hit by an obstacle, they lose a life. You decide how many lives your character gets.
  5. As time goes on, make the game get more difficult by speeding it up.
  6. Code a points system so the longer you stay alive, the more points you get.
  7. Add fun sound effects and background music.
  8. Code an opening story animation, and “You Win” / “You Lose” screens.

“My experience working on this project was challenging for me. It proved I needed
to think more outside the box and other things to truly succeed in my project. On
some subjects it took days, others within the class period, But overall I believe it
was a fun and challenging learning experience. I believe that because I won I am
very excited to see what happens next. I love coding so far and this was a
challenging experience [Like I said earlier] So winning for me was a pretty great
moment.”
