Schedule: The schedule for this position may include evenings and Saturdays.
Duties: Under direction, plans, coordinates, and directs through subordinate level supervisory professional librarians, various functional or specialized areas of a library involved in providing a variety of library services requiring substantial professional knowledge of theories, objectives, principles, and practices of librarianship; does other related duties as required.
Positions in this class are on a level below that of Assistant Library Director and above that of Librarian 4; the Chief Librarian works under direction of a higher level administrator and oversees and supervises work performed by supervising librarian(s); they have responsibility for administration and management of a variety of public library operations under the direction of higher levels of management. A Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master's program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.
Four (4) years of professional librarian experience in providing general library services, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
Appointees may be required to possess a valid license as a Professional Librarian issued by Thomas Edison State College.
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for students, teens, and adults, from helping to clean and sort library materials and displays, to preparing crafts for programming.
