Check out an eBook for your Kindle

Follow these step-by-step instructions on how to check out an eBook for your Kindle from the Atlantic County Library System.

1. Open a Web browser, such as Internet Explorer. In the address bar, type in: www.atlanticlibrary.org and hit enter.

2. Select Audiobook/eBook under SERVICES in the top blue menu bar.

3. Click “My Digital Account” and Log in using your Atlantic County Library Card and PIN number.

4. Choose Atlantic County Library System from the dropdown box, then enter your Atlantic County Library Card number (use the whole number with no spaces), and PIN number which is usually the last 4 digits of your phone number, but please contact us if you do not remember, or need to change your PIN.

5. You will see various available options upon sign in. Look into the Wish List feature, it is a great way to manage your titles.

6. Click the “Advanced Search”. This allows a variety of search options, such as Format, Date Added, and Subject.

7. If looking ONLY for Kindle titles, simply choose Kindle Book as the Format, from the dropdown box.

8. Click the box next to “only show titles with copies available” to find titles that are available right now in Kindle (or any other) format. Enter some info about the book you are looking for and click “Search”.

9. Once a title is chosen, simply click on “Add to Cart” on the right. Be sure to choose the correct format for your reader. If the title shows “Place a Hold” to the right, you will be placed on a short waiting list and will be notified as soon as the title becomes available.

10. Once a title or titles are in your cart, simply click “Proceed to Checkout” and then “Confirm Check Out” on the next screen.

11. Next, click “Get for Kindle”.

12. A new browser window will open directing you to Amazon.com where you will need to click “Get library book”.

13. If you are not signed into your Amazon account, simply sign in using your email and Amazon password. If you do not have an Amazon account, you will need to register with them, it is free.

14. Once signed in, you will be shown a dropdown box listing your Kindle devices (if you have more than one Kindle on your account, simply choose one), then click “Continue”.

15. If you have a Wi-Fi enabled eReader then … That’s it! Your library book has been sent to your Kindle! The next time you connect your device to a Wi-Fi network, your book will appear. You may have to restart if it is currently on.

16. If you have a non-Wi-Fi Kindle or wish to manually transfer titles to your device, please connect the Kindle to the computer with your USB cable and once connected, click “Download now”.

17. A pop-up window should appear (if not, check your pop-up window manager on your Web browser), then click “Save”.

18. Make sure your Kindle is selected up top next to “Save in”. If it is not, you will find it by clicking the My Computer button on the bottom left hand side of this window. Then select the documents folder within the Kindle and click the “Open” button below.

19. Click “Save” on the next screen.

20. The eBook will now be transferred to your Kindle. You can click Close to shut the notification window once the title is finished transferring.
