This program is made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Have you found yourself avoiding restaurants, public meetings, your doctor's office, or even your temple or church, because you have trouble understanding what's being said? Do you sometimes feel like it might be easier to just stay home?
Many public places are so noisy and filled with echoes that they can affect any hearing loss, even one too mild to require a hearing aid. Distance from the speaker, competing noises, and rooms with poor acoustic designs can make effective listening nearly impossible.
Assistive Listening Systems bridge the gap between your ears and the sounds you do want to hear, while shutting out the noises you don't. These systems combine a transmitter placed near the desired sounds, which is wireless linked to a small receiver that your wear. This receiver, in turn, delivers those sounds directly into your ears.
Three Systems Available for Loan
The Assistive Listening Technology Loan Program makes three types of systems available to you: Personal FM, Wide Area FM and a table top model. All systems are portable and come with simple instructions. They readily connect to all types of hearing aids and cochlear implants, and also work well for people without aids or implants, via earbuds or lightweight headsets.
Personal FM System
This system is ideal for one on one conversations, meetings in confined areas such as the doctor's office, and for traveling in a car.
Wide Area FM System
The Wide Area FM System is suited for those occasions when you are in a large meeting or when you can't get close enough to use the Personal FM System. This might help at lectures, concerts or in church.
Table Top FM System
We also have a table top model assistive listening device, ideal for small meetings around a conference table.
