Can I use JerseyCat from home?
Yes. A link to JerseyCat is found on all of our web pages.
Is there a fee to use JerseyCat?
No, JerseyCat is a free service from the state library and the regional library cooperatives. Participating libraries do not charge to borrow their materials.
How do I use JerseyCat to request a item?
JerseyCat is searched by author or title. Once you find the item you want, you click on the “Request this Item” button found on the upper right side of the page. JerseyCat will then search the database for all libraries that own the item. This can take a few minutes. When it finishes searching, you will see a form. Please fill it in with your personal information: name, card number and phone number or e-mail are the minimum. Also please make sure you choose your pickup location from the drop-down menu.
How many requests can I submit at a time?
You may submit up to 10 requests a day. You may have a total of 20 requests in process at one time.
How long will it take?
It can take a minimum of 2 weeks to receive an item requested on JerseyCat. Sometimes it is not possible to borrow an item from a New Jersey Library. Your request will take longer if the item comes from a library outside of New Jersey.
How long can I keep the item?
You can usually keep the item for 3 weeks. However, many items come in from lending libraries with shorter and longer loan periods. Always go by the due date on the front of the book.
Can I renew items from JerseyCat?
The renewal procedure for JerseyCat is the same as for other inter-library items. To request a renewal of an Inter-library loan item, the item must be returned to the Inter-library Loan office with another request form. Inter-library Loan will attempt to renew the item but if the lending library refuses, we will use the 2nd request to borrow another copy of the item from another library
